The Israeli military on Monday said it had carried out airstrikes on a training camp run by militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli Defence Forces said the strikes were a response to rocket attacks from the Palestinian territory. There are no reports of any casualties.
Security forces destroyed six separate facilities Hamas operated, including buildings and “terror infrastructure”, the country’s military spokesperson said. The Army “will not allow attacks or attempted attacks on citizens,” the statement added.
Earlier on Monday, the military had said three rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip on Sunday night. It claimed that the rockets struck the Hof Ashkelon region in Israel, and one landed in Hamas-controlled territory.
United Nations to vote on Jerusalem
Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council will vote on Monday on a draft resolution to reject United States President Donald Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel. Egypt drafted the resolution.
After Trump’s decision, Arab foreign ministers had said they would seek a UN Security Council resolution. To pass, a resolution needs nine votes in its favour and no vetoes by the United States, France, Britain, Russia or China – the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.
