Eros International will co-produce four movies with Drishyam Films, it announced on Monday.
Founded by Manish Mundra in 2014, Drishyam has produced critically acclaimed films such as Aakhon Dekhi (2014), Masaan (2015), and India’s official Oscar entry Newton (2017). Eros distributed Newton and another Drishyam production, Rukh, earlier this year.
The four collaborations between Eros International and Drishyam Films will herald “new wave of cinema that the companies have come to stand for”, Eros said in a press release. The first collaboration, titled Kaamyaab, is about a seasoned character actor who decides to come out of retirement to set a record by acting in his 500th film. Directed by Hardik Mehta, the movie will feature Sanjay Mishra in the lead role along with Deepak Dobriyal.
“At Eros, we believe that our future slate should have a mix of blockbusters like Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Bajirao Mastani as well as beautiful stories made on smaller budgets like Aligarh, Nil Battey Sannata and Newton,” Eros International Group CEO Jyoti Deshpande said in the press release. “We’ve already started our relationship with Drishyam by distributing Newton, Rukh and Kadvi Hawa and with this new co-production slate, we are hoping to present some very compelling stories to our audiences worldwide”.
Eros International also has in place a co-production and distribution partnership with Aanand L Rai’s Color Yellow Productions.
