In Chonquing, China, a man made a narrow but spectacular escape after his flat on an upper floor of a 23-storeyed building caught fire. Finding no other way out, the man dangled perilously from the window grill of the high-rise as flames roared around him.

The incident was caught on camera by onlookers. They shouted in horror as the man held on for his life, even as flaming embers fell around him. Some even landed on his shoulder, where they continued to burn.

The video above captures his heartstopping rescue. He was taken safe and sound to a hospital.
