Fresh voting took place at six booths in four assembly constituencies in Gujarat on Sunday, a day before the votes are counted and the results declared, ANI reported.
On Friday, the Election Commission ordered re-polling a two booths each in the Vadgam and Savli constituencies, and one each in Daskroi and Viramgam, citing technical reasons for the decision. The poll panel said the votes cast there during the second phase of polling on December 14 are now void.
At noon on Sunday, 45.22% voting was recorded at the two booths of Savli, 47% in Viramgam and 45% in Daskroi, TV9 Gujarati reported. The Vadgam numbers were yet to come in.
Meanwhile, candidate from the Vadgam constituency Jignesh Mevani, called the exit polls “nonsense”. “The Bharatiya Janata Party is definitely going to lose this time and will not form the government,” he said, according to ANI.
Mevani is the latest leader to comment on the exit polls, which predicted a comfortable win for the BJP in both Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. The results for both states will be announced on Monday.
Earlier, the Congress also rejected the results of the exit polls. Congress leader Manish Tewari labelled them “sensational” and said the numbers “don’t add up”. Another party spokesperson Salman Anees Soz said “exit polls don’t have a stellar record in India”.
National Congress chief and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah said on Twitter that exit polls have been “wrong more times than they’ve been right”.
