At least two people were killed and seven injured after an earthquake of magnitude 6.9 struck the South Java island of Indonesia on Friday night. Several houses and public facilities were damaged in the disaster, Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency said, according to the Jakarta Post.
A tsunami warning was issued after the earthquake, but was revoked soon after.
The two victims of the earthquake died after walls collapsed on them. “The injured have been taken to the nearest hospitals,” said Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesperson for the National Disaster Mitigation Agency.
The quake was centered in the western part of Java in Cipatujah at a depth of 91.9 km, according to the United States Geological Survey. The tremors were felt as far as 305 km in Capital city Jakarta, CNN reported.
