“Tu jaanta hai mera baap kaun hai? (You know who my father is?)” is a form of bluster heard all too often across India. It’s a testimony to the abuse of power by anyone claiming to have a connection with powerful people.
A comedy duo has targeted such entitled behaviour with its parody sketches (above), creating scenarios we’re all familiar with. Using cultural tropes like cricket, biryani, corrupt policemen and, possibly, Bollywood actor Salman Khan (through the infamous hit-and-run case) they portray the widespread abuse of power in a lighthearted manner.
“You know who my uncle is?” is the familiar punchline used by the miscreants to get out of trouble. Of course, politician-uncle is only too keen to help.
