Rifle shooter Anjum Moudgil of Punjab bagged two goal medals on the opening day of competitions at the National Shooting Championship Competitions for rifle and pistol events in Trivandrum, Kerala on Wednesday.
Moudgil won the women’s 50metre Rifle Prone individual gold with a classy 624.8, ahead of former world champion Tejaswini Sawant of Maharashtra, who ended with a score of 620.7 after 60 shots. The bronze went to Elizabeth Susan Koshy of Kerala who shot 618.8.
Moudgil’s effort led to her Punjab team comprising Chahat Deep Kaur and Jasleen Kaur winning the team Gold in the event with a combined score of 1853.9. Team Kerala won silver with 1841.8 while Haryana won bronze with 1837.5.
At the recently concluded Commonwealth Shooting Championships, Moudgil won bronze and team silver and has been in top form.
The other star of the day was Jammu & Kashmir (J&K)’s Shreya Saksena who won the Junior women’s, women’s civilian and Junior women’s civilian individual gold in 50metre rifle prone. She shot a winning score of 617.0. Maharashtra also had a bright start with three gold medals in the same three team events.
A total of 4800 men and women shooters from across the country are participating in the 61st NSCC including 200 wild card entries. Day two of competitions has the Women’s Air Rifle events lined up.
