The New York Police Department on Monday said there was an explosion at a bus terminal in Manhattan. The incident occurred at the Port Authority Bus Terminal near Times Square.
One suspect has been taken into custody, the police said. The New York Fire Department said four people were injured. It said the injuries were not of a threatening nature.
An unidentified law enforcement officer told AP that the explosion happened around 7.30 am local time (6 pm Indian Standard Time). An unidentified commuter told The Guardian that a police officer had said that it was “a guy with a pipe-bomb” who made the explosion.
“The NYPD is responding to reports of an explosion of unknown origin at 42nd Street and 8th Ave, #Manhattan,” the police said on Twitter. “The A, C and E line are being evacuated at this time. Info is preliminary, more when available.” Several subway train lines are being evacuated, officials said.
Port Authority is the largest bus terminal in the United States.
