Unidentified men raped and murdered a six-year-old girl in Haryana’s Hisar district on Friday night, and her family found her body near their house on Saturday. After initially refusing to cremate her body, the family performed her last rites on Sunday after the police assured them that the culprits will be caught within two days, The Indian Express reported.
While no arrests have been made yet, the Hisar Police have registered a case and formed a Special Investigation Team to look into the rape and murder, Deputy Superintendent of Police Jitender Kumar said.
An autopsy conducted by doctors at the Hisar Civil Hospital found that the rapists had inserted a wooden stick in the girl’s body. She bore multiple injuries and scratch marks and had blood all over her body, according to The Indian Express.
The six-year-old’s mother said she had gone to bed with her three children in their slum on Friday night but realised her daughter was missing in the morning. The police believe unidentified men kidnapped her from her house.
Local shops were closed on Saturday and residents of Uklana village, where the incident took place, staged protests in the evening. The Congress and the Indian National Lok Dal joined the local residents in their protests against the government at the cremation ground, PTI reported.
