At least one person was killed and nearly 27,000 residents evacuated after a wildfire spread in Ventura County of Los Angeles in the United States on Tuesday, BBC reported. The wildfire, which has been named the Thomas Fire, was fanned by high winds and pushed to the cities of Santa Paula and Ventura in southern California.
Nearly 1,000 homes in Ventura, Santa Paula and Ojai were evacuated, and more than 250,000 homes lost power. At least 150 structures were destroyed in the fire, Los Angeles Times reported.
More than 500 firemen were deployed to fight the blaze, and one firefighter was injured. “We are really just trying to catch it around the edges and just pinching it off as quickly as we possibly can,” Ventura County firefighter Jason Hodge told the Los Angeles Times. “The prospects for containment are not good. Really, Mother Nature is going to decide.”
