At least 13 people were killed and two went missing after a fishing boat collided with a refuelling tanker and capsized off the port city of Incheon in South Korea on Sunday, The Korea Times reported. Seven people are being treated at hospitals, but are not in critical condition.
The accident took place at 6.09 am local time (2.39 am Indian Standard Time) after the boat collided with a 336-tonne tanker in the West Sea off Yeongheung Island, the Incheon Coast Guard told The Korea Times.
The boat’s captain is among the two missing individuals. South Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has created a task force to handle the situation after the accident. Nineteen Coast Guard and Korean Navy vessels as well as five aircraft are searching for the two missing individuals.
The Incheon coast has seen many accidents in the recent past. As many as thirty-five accidents involving fishing boats have occurred off the coast since 2012, according to The Korea Times.
