The Karnataka Police have registered a complaint against Bharatiya Janata Party workers in Tumkur for attacking a television journalist for reporting on cases of illegal mining in the state, ANI reported.
The journalist was assaulted after he arrived at a press conference organised by the BJP workers on Saturday morning.
Journalists from various news organisations staged a demonstration outside the district commissioner’s office in Kalaburagi on Sunday in protest against the incident.
Congress leader Suraj Hegde condemned the incident and urged authorities to take stringent action against those who beat up the journalist. “The reporter’s job is to bring out the truth, and if a person is attacked for doing his job, it is not acceptable,” he told ANI.
