Indranil Rajyaguru, the Congress candidate contesting against Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani (pictured above) in the upcoming Assembly election from Rajkot West, was among three of the party’s leaders detained on Saturday. The police detained the trio after a scuffle with Bharatiya Janata Party workers outside Rupani’s house, PTI reported.
The other two detained were the Congress’ Rajkot East candidate Mitul Donga and another party worker. They were taken into custody after an altercation at the Brahm Samaj Chowk in Rajkot over fixing party posters. Rajyaguru’s brother Deepu was injured in the scuffle.
“A scuffle broke out between Congress and BJP workers over posters being torn,” Joint Commissioner of Police Dipak Bhatt told the media.
On hearing of the incident, Indranil Rajyaguru and other Congress leaders attempted to protest outside the chief minister’s house. “We tried to reason it out with him, but they wanted to take law in their hands,” Bhatt said.
