Salil S Parekh will be the new chief executive officer and managing director of Infosys, and will take over on January 2, the software company said on Saturday. This concludes the company’s “global search” for a CEO, after Vishal Sikka quit from the position in August.
UB Pravin Rao, who was appointed interim CEO and managing director after Sikka’s sudden resignation, will go back to his role of chief operating officer once Parekh joins the company.
Parekh has been a top executive at consultancy firm Capgemini for 25 years. He will serve a tenure of five years at Infosys, the company’s board of directors decided on Saturday afternoon. The appointment is subject to the approval of the firm’s shareholders.
Parekh has Master of Engineering degrees in computer science and mechanical engineering from Cornell University, and has a BTech degree in aeronautical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai.
