Quentin Tarantino’s Charles Manson-themed project will be released on August 9, 2019, according to a report in The Hollywood Reporter. The date marks the fiftieth anniversary since the murders of actress Sharon Tate and her friends in Hollywood by members of Manson’s cult.
Manson died in prison on November 17 while serving a life sentence. Tate was married to director Roman Polanski at the time and was eight-and-a-half-months pregnant when she was stabbed to death in 1969.
The movie’s rights have been bagged by Sony Pictures, which stepped in after the exit of Tarantino’s long-time producer, Harvey Weinstein.
“Tarantino’s movie is described as a 1969-set ensemble piece that in some way involves Manson and the murder of Tate,” The Hollywood Reporter said. “Sony’s pickup came with no actors attached, but overtures have been made to such A-listers as Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie.”
