What happens when celebrities decide to help out a charity for AIDS? They join Jimmy Kimmel on his late-night show for a special, satirical song to encourage the wealthy to donate to an organisation fighting HIV and AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa.
The host, who sat behind a piano, was joined by Bono, Kristen Bell, Ashton Kutcher, Rita Wilson, Bryan Cranston, DJ Khaled and Sean “Diddy” Combs, all dressed in tuxedos and sharp black suits to perform the sardonic holiday song We’re Going to Hell. Written by The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers, the cheery tune toasted the obscene wealth of the A-list celebrities – “we’re lucky we’re rich” – while reminding them, “If we don’t help people with AIDS, we’re going to hell.”
Cranston even interrupted the celebrities mocking their own privilege with an off-tune trumpet solo. “Bryan, Bryan, did you practise that?” asks Kimmel, to which Cranston replies, “No... because I’ve been too busy fighting AIDS, Jimmy.”
