A 43-year-old Chennai woman died of burn injuries on Tuesday, two weeks after she unsuccessfully tried to save her 22-year-old daughter when an alleged stalker set her on fire at her home. Her other daughter, who had also suffered burn injuries, is still in hospital but is now stable, The News Minute reported.
On November 13, the 22-year-old engineer had died after the accused, her classmate Aakash, burnt her alive after throwing petrol on her at her home in Chennai’s Adambakkam area. The man was arrested the next day. He had allegedly been stalking the woman for a month.
On the night of the incident, he went to her house around 8.45 pm and told her family he wanted to speak to her. When the family refused to let him see her, Aakash poured petrol on her.
As they tried to save her, the woman’s mother suffered with 49% burns, and her sister suffered 23% burns.
Aakash had claimed that he and the woman were in a relationship and they planned to marry. However, the woman’s family said that she had rejected his advances.
