The Kerala unit president of the Janata Dal (United) announced he was resigning from the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, as he was unhappy with his party’s decision to tie up with the Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition at the Centre, PTI reported.
MP Veerendra Kumar said, “I do not wish to continue as a Rajya Sabha member under Nitish Kumar, who joined the Sangh Parivar.” Veerendra Kumar was elected to the Rajya Sabha in March 2016.
In Kerala, the Janata Dal (United) is a part of the Congress-led United Democratic Front – the opposition coalition. Veerendra Kumar said the Kerala committee of the party has not made a decision yet about leaving the Congress and joining the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Democratic Front till now, The Hindu reported.
Veerendra Kumar, who was the leader of the Socialist Janata (Democratic) party until he merged it with the Janata Dal (United) in 2014, said there were plans to revive this party, according to The Hindu.
