Suspected robbers shot dead a 21-year-old man from Jalandhar living in Mississippi, United States on Monday night. The victim was identified as Sandeep Singh, who had been living in the US for over three years and worked at a store.
Sandeep Singh’s father Balwinder, who is head constable in the Punjab Police department, said the deceased and his friends were returning home from work on Monday night when they were stopped near their home, The Times of India reported. The gunmen tried to take away their cash and mobile phones, but when Sandeep Singh resisted, they shot at him. His friends escaped unhurt.
In a statement, the Jackson Police Department described the suspect as a “black male, last seen wearing a gray hooded shirt, armed with a 0.9 mm pistol”. The police suspect that the incident could be part of a string of robberies taking place in Mississippi’s Capital.
The police sought the help of citizens to identify the suspects that they believe are responsible for other robberies. “In an attempt to conceal their identities, they have their faces covered with bandanas and/or masks,” the police said in the statement. “The suspects have also been observed wearing hooded sweatshirts and gloves.”
“I have lost everything and I appeal to the government to take up the matter with the US government to stop such incidents,” the deceased’s father Balwinder Singh told The Indian Express.
On November 14, armed robbers had shot dead a 21-year-old Indian student from Punjab at a grocery store in California. The Fresno County Sheriff had arrested one of the suspects, Armitraj Singh Athwal from Modesto.
