A Haryana Police Special Investigation Team on Monday filed a charge sheet against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim Singh’s adopted daughter Honeypreet Insan, PTI reported. The team also included the names of 14 others, who were accused in connection with the August 25 Panchkula violence case, in the charge sheet.
The team accused Honeypreet of playing a major role before and during the riots that followed the verdict against Singh in two rape cases, News18 reported.
The police had earlier claimed that Honeypreet Insan distributed Rs 1.25 crore among some followers of the sect to incite violence in Panchkula on August 25 when Ram Rahim Singh was convicted. The Haryana police were criticised for inefficiency after nearly 40 people died and over 250 were injured in the violence
Honeypreet and 11 others were charged with sedition, criminal conspiracy and other crimes under the Indian Penal Code. Three others were charged with sheltering her while she was absconding. Honeypreet Insan and her accomplice Sukhdeep Kaur had been missing for over a month after the incident, and were arrested in Punjab on October 3.
