The Railways on Tuesday suspended a senior section officer in charge of tracks in Manikpur, Uttar Pradesh, after the derailment of the Vasco Da Gama Express left three passengers dead on November 24, PTI reported.
Rajesh Verma was in charge of the tracks at Manikpur station. “A permanent way inspector, also called a senior section officer, Rajesh Verma, who was in charge of Manikpur has been suspended over the incident pending investigation,” said Railway spokesperson Anil Saxena.
Ten coaches of the Patna-bound train derailed at 4.33 am near the Manikpur railway station in Chitrakoot district on November 24.
The Commissioner of Railway Safety is investigating what led to the accident. Initial investigations, however, suggested that a rail fracture caused the train to derail, PTI reported.
