Skipper Virat Kohli stood tall with a double century as India cornered Sri Lanka with an imposing first innings lead of 405 on day three of the second Test on Sunday.
India declared their innings on 610/6 on back of a majestic 213 by Kohli.
It was the star batsman’s fifth 200-plus score in his 62nd Test. He has scored double tons against West Indies, New Zealand, England and Bangladesh.
Kohli reached the mark in 259 balls, smashing 15 fours and two sixes along the way. He eventually departed for 213 after steering India’s effort in the first innings, which they declared on 610//6.
Kohli’s ‘Sunday special’ gave fans plenty to talk about and Twitter had a ball as he toyed with the bowlers in the middle.
