Amazon Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bezos’ fortune crossed the $100-billion mark on Friday, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Bezos is the first person since 1999 to cross $100 billion in net worth. Microsoft Co-founder Bill Gates had hit $100 billion that year.
Bezos’ fortune rose by $2.35 billion (Rs 15,169 crore) to $100.3 billion (Rs 6,47,441 crore) at the end of trading day on the Nasdaq stock exchange, as Amazon’s shares jumped by 2.62%. The electronic commerce mogul’s net worth also rose by $34.9 billion (Rs 2,25,281 crore) in 2017, the highest increase ever on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
The Amazon chairperson had overtaken Bill Gates to become the richest person in the world on October 27. Bezos had added $10.4 billion (Rs 67,481 crore) to his net worth as Amazon shares rose 13% on the Nasdaq that day.
