A senior Pakistani police official was killed in a blast on Friday after a suicide bomber rammed his motorcycle into police a vehicle near Zarghooni Mosque in Peshawar, Dawn reported.
Additional Inspector General Ashraf Noor, as well as his bodyguard, died while on their way to work. Five others were injured in the incident, AFP reported.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi condemned the murder. “Our resolve to eradicate the menace of terrorism cannot be shaken,” he said.
Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa said: “Salute to the supreme sacrifice of our police comrade AIG Noor. Our determination remains undeterred against threats to our motherland.”
The report of the initial investigation said that the attacker was carrying 15 kg to 20 kg of explosive material, Dawn reported. He is believed to have been waiting for Noor’s vehicle at the site of the blast.
