After their viral parody song hitting out at demonetisation, protest music group The Banned are back with another tuneful potshot. Their new song (above) takes down government apathy towards the deadly smog and air pollution that engulfed North India.
Borrowing the melody of Om Shanti Om from the 1980 film Karz, the musicians belt out their warning: “Breathe na lena Dilli waalon, saans na lena Kashi waalon. (Don’t breathe, Delhi people, don’t inhale, Kashi people.)”
Blaming the air pollution from vehicular emissions, industrial discharge and crop-burning for the many ailments that citizens are suffering from, the singers lament: “Maine saans leke, lungs khoye, life khoyi. (I breathed, and lost my lungs, lost my life.)” Many more telling blows are to be found in the song.
