Singer Melissa Schuman has accused Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter of raping her 15 years ago, when she was 18 and he was 22. Carter has yet to respond to the claim.
In a long post on her personal blog on November 18, Schuman, who used to be part of the pop group Dream, said she and Carter were cast together for a TV show. She alleged that he raped her after inviting her to his apartment on a day off.
Schuman said she was in Carter’s house with a friend. She claimed that after she and Carter ended up kissing, he forced her to get more intimate than she wanted to be and then raped her.
The singer said she did not talk about the assault earlier because her manager told her Carter had the “most powerful litigator in the country”, but changed her mind when another woman accused Carter of sexual assault.
Carter is the latest in a long list of celebrities accused of sexual assault and harassment over the past few months, after a slew of rape and sexual misconduct allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein were reported in October.
