The Unique Identification Authority of India on Monday said that the Aadhaar data is completely safe and secure, PTI reported. This comes a day after the news agency cited a Right to Information response by the authority, in which it admitted that personal details of several users were displayed on more than 200 central and state government websites before being taken down.

“There was no breach or leakage of Aadhaar data from UIDAI database or server,” the authority said on Monday, adding that government and institutional websites placed the data in the public domain as a measure of proactive disclosure under the Right to Information Act.

The government body said it took prompt action, and along with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, directed the departments and ministries that had uploaded the data to immediately remove them, PTI reported on Sunday. They were also asked to make sure that such violations do not occur in the future.
