A man from Jammu told PTI on Sunday that media houses had carried his picture as one of the six Lashkar-e-Taiba militants who were killed by Indian security forces in Bandipora on Saturday. Abdul Majid has demanded an investigation into the error.
“I was shocked on seeing my picture among the dead terrorists in electronic and print media,” Majid told PTI. “Somebody downloaded my picture from the Facebook account and circulated it as one of the dead terrorists.”
Majid, a barbecue seller at the Khati Ka Talab area in Jammu, said he was at home when he received a call informing him that that his picture was among the six dead militants. “I am not a terrorist. How can they carry my picture?,” he asked. “It is the negligence of media and the state administration.” He said that he had filed a police complaint.
“I do not know whose conspiracy is this. But whoever has done it has tarnished my image,” he said. Majid added that he wanted his name to be cleared as soon as possible.
