The 1981 Tamil hit Meendum Kokila, starring Kamal Haasan and Sridevi, will be remastered and re-released on December 15. GN Rangarajan’s movie is about a married man (Haasan) who develops an infatuation with an actress (Deepa). His wife Kamini (Sridevi) tries to win him back.
The Haasan starrer Vetri Vizha was similarly re-released in June by distributor Darwin Movies. The company’s founder, Deva, told Deccan Chronicle that he plans to reissue other Haasan starrers, including Kaakki Sattai (1985) and Kadhal Parisu (1987).
Other re-releases that tap into the Tamil audience’s dedication to popular classics include Sivaji Ganesan’s Karnan (1964) and Rajinikanth’s Baasha (1995).
