A professor at Banaras Hindu University’s Institute of Medical Sciences has developed an application that plays devotional songs when someone tries to open pornography sites, The Times of India reported on Thursday.
The app – called “Har Har Mahadev” – was developed by a team led by Dr Vijay Nath Mishra, a professor of neurology at BHU.
“We have developed the website blocker and internet filtering service so one can surf safely without any fear of opening adult or objectionable sites,” said Dr Mishra, who hails from the family of head priests at Varanasi’s Sankat Mochan temple. The neurology professor said his team took six months to develop the app.
Explaining his motivation behind creating the app, he said he had his children and family in mind, as well as “my patients who come in with behavioural problems”, The Indian Express reported. “Addiction to pornography cannot be treated, but this is a humble attempt at changing one’s behaviour,” he said.
