The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday took over the case of an alleged sex CD involving a Chhattisgarh Bharatiya Janata Party minister, ANI reported.
Rajesh Munat had filed cases against former BBC journalist Vinod Verma and Chhattisgarh Congress President Bhupesh Baghel for allegedly maligning him through what he claimed was a fake CD. The case was filed under the Information Technology Act.
Verma was arrested from his home in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh on October 27 for allegedly attempting to extort money from Munat using the CD, but he denied the charges. A member of the Editors Guild of India, Verma had claimed that the Chhattisgarh government was framing him. On November 6, a Raipur court denied him bail.
On October 29, Munat had claimed that there was a “political conspiracy” behind the CD, and the Central Bureau of Investigation would now find out who was behind it. “Assassinating a person’s character was a matter of concern,” he had said.
