Eighteen-time Grand-Slam winner Martina Navratilova is set to be honoured with a commemorative coin produced by the Czech Mint next year.
Navratilova was born in Prague and represented erstwhile Czechoslovakia till 1975 before becoming a US citizen.
On Wednesday, she returned to her city of birth to unveil models of coins that would have her face on them. Other than the 61-year-old, compatriot Jan Kodes, a three-time Slam singles champion in the men’s game will also be honoured. The Mint will produce a limited run of 200 golden coins and 500 made of silver.
“One can perhaps dream of being on a postage stamp, but being on a coin is truly special,” Navratilova was quoted as saying by WTAtennis.
