A worker of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh was hacked to death in Kerala’s Thrissur district on Sunday. Anandan was out on bail after being arrested in connection with the murder of a Communist Party of India (Marxist) worker, PTI reported. The CPI(M) worker was killed in 2013.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has said that Communist party workers attacked and killed Anandan. The party has called for a shutdown in Guruvayur and Manaloor on Monday
The police have said they suspect he was killed out of revenge, Hindustan Times reported. In October, the BJP had carried out rallies across the state to protest against political murders in Kerala.
On Saturday, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the RSS’ student wing, had organised a rally in Thiruvananthapuram to protest against political intolerance in the state.
Official figures are not available, but according to data obtained from an RTI query, the BJP and CPI(M) have lost at least 30 workers each between 2000 to 2016. In this period, Kannur alone reported 69 political murders.
