At least 27 people were killed and 69 were injured after a bus fell into a ravine in Pakistan’s Punjab province on Wednesday night, The Express Tribune reported. Most of the passengers were members of the Tableeghi Jamaat – an Islamic missionary movement – and were on their way to attend an annual congregation in Raiwind near Lahore.
The bus was coming from the town of Kohat in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and the accident took place in the town of Kallar Kahar, said the police.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered an inquiry into the accident.
There have been fatal road accidents in Kallar Kahar before, according to The Express Tribune. In September 2011, 37 people were killed in a bus crash while in April 2014, 15 people were killed in a similar accident.
