India wild card entrant Ramit Tandon caused a sensational upset in the CCI International JSW Indian Squash Circuit when he knocked out top seed Borja Golan of Spain 3-2 to enter the semi-finals on Wednesday.
Tandon, ranked 201 in the world, toppled World No 18 Golan in an 89-minute duel at the Brabourne Stadium lawns. Tandon rallied from 1-2 to win 11-8, 7-11, 6-11, 11-6, 11-8.
Third seed and India no 1 Saurav Ghosal defeated Joel Makin of Wales 11-6, 11-8, 6-11, 11-2 to join Tandon in the last four of the PSA event. Ghosal beat Makin in 59 minutes.
Former national squash champion and PSA Asia representative, Ritwik Bhattacharya said, “This is big for Ramit and for the Indian Squash Circuit. It will give a huge boost to his confidence as well as his world ranking. Superb performance, beating Borja in five games.”
