The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday said that it had arrested 21 public servants and 26 private citizens for illegally exchanging the banned Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes, The Hindu reported. The 47 arrested people are among the list of the 307 who were accused of the crime.
The CBI had registered 77 cases and seven preliminary inquiries, the agency’s spokesperson, Abhishek Dayal, said. The CBI reported illegal tender amounting to Rs 395.19 crore from the cases registered, ANI reported.
CBI Director Alok Kumar Verma had asked the agency’s officers to give top priority to demonetisation-related cases, Dayal said. The teams investigating these cases have been instructed to complete their investigations within the set time frame.
