“Do you feel feelings? Tired of feeling nostalgic? Want to feel nostalgic about feeling nostalgic? The All New Deja Vu is just what you need!” says the description of Brainfart Productions’s “advertisement” for New Deja Vu.
The hilarious video (above) is an absurdist jibe at the new wave of advertisements that capitalise on feelings of nostalgia to sell products. Taking digs at consumerism – “Are you so heavily immersed in consumerist society that you will buy any advertised product?” – and “meta” filmmakers, the video has all the trappings of the self-aware videos that are being produced by everyone from multinational FMCG companies to sketch comedy groups. From extended uncomfortable silences to infinite loops, the video has it all.
“This is avant garde...it’s not like we’re selling a real product,” the video concludes.
The group previously made an equally hilarious spoof on advertisements for sanitary pads, called “Manitary Pads” that you can watch below.
