Indians are waking up to fresh street art every day. Artists are turning the eyesores that many urban roads are into striking visuals and performance spaces. Which is what Suede Gully takes advantage of to push its promotional message.

The video (above) is not just a multi-dimensional, multilingual and multicultural project, but it’s also India’s largest street collaboration, bringing together 58 artists from three disciplines – music, dance and art. It also features four different Indian languages – Hindi, Khasi, Punjabi and Tamil – and has been shot across four dynamic settings in Mumbai, Delhi, Madurai, and Shillong.

Featuring, among others, Indian heavyweight hip-hoppers and rappers Divine, Prabh Deep, Khasi Bloodz and Maduri Souljour, Suede Gully is set against the backdrop of vibrant street art by Shilo Shiv Suleman, Anpu Varkey, Zake, The Indian Artist, and Baadal Nanjudaswamy. All this is layered with choreography by famed dancer Mukti Mohan, who joins dance crews Unity One, Beast Mode Crew, Unity Crew and Black Ice Crew for the power-jammed, pumped-up dance moves.

But despite the presence of these performers, Suede Gully doesn’t lose focus on the art. And it all adds up to a stunning display of street culture. To be sure, the sports shoes of the sponsoring brand are conspicuously present, but the real story is elsewhere.
