Thirteen Delhi-bound flights were diverted to other cities within a 45-minute span on Saturday evening reportedly because of movement of VIP flights, airport officials told ANI. The flights were diverted between 5.30 pm and 6.15 pm because of “high frequency of VIP chartered planes”.
Most flights later reached Delhi after delays of over an hour, with a Patna-Delhi flight getting delayed by six hours. Nearly 90 domestic flights arriving at the airport were delayed or diverted by 9 pm, according to NDTV.
A video posted by ANI showed long queues at the boarding gate area of the airport’s Terminal 1, which handles much of the domestic traffic.
