One of the two police officers, who were injured in a suspected militant attack in Pulwama district on Saturday evening, succumbed to his injuries later in the day in hospital. The officer was identified as constable Abdul Salam.
The two were injured in South Kashmir after suspected militants opened fire on a team on duty at a post in Rajpora town. They were both earlier reported to be in stable condition.
Deputy Inspector General (South Kashmir Range) Swayam Prakash Pani had denied reports that the Rajpora Police Station was attacked.
The police had cordoned off the area becuase of the heavy exchange of fire and the search operation under way.
