West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday in Mumbai, PTI reported. “There was no political discussion, but we have the same views on issues such as demonetisation and the Goods and Services Tax” NDTV quoted Thackeray as saying.
Thackeray’s party is part of the Maharashtra government as an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party, whose policies Banerjee has strongly opposed. The Shiv Sena has also been critical of the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in the state in recent weeks. The party on Wednesday stepped up its attacks on the state government by releasing a booklet titled Ghotalebaaz BJP (Scamster BJP) that lists a dozen alleged scams.
Banerjee is in the city since Tuesday, and will return to Kolkata on Friday. She also met industrialists and bankers ahead of the Bengal Global Business Summit in January.
Thackeray’s son Aaditya was also present at the meeting.
