Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said there was as stark difference between the reality of Gujarat and the one that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party presented, The Indian Express reported. Resuming the Congress’ “Navsarjan rally” in Valsad, Gandhi said the plight of farmers, expensive education, expensive healthcare, unemployment, police violence against the Patidar community and attacks on Dalits was Gujarat’s truth.

“The reality of the BJP is that it works for the benefit of five to ten industrialists in Gujarat,” the Congress scion said. He said that while the BJP government in Gujarat gave the Tatas Rs 33,000 crore to build the Tata Nano plant, the Congress – then at the Centre – had implemented the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme at the same cost.

“I have toured thousands of kilometers in Gujarat, but have not seen a single Nano car,” Gandhi claimed, also accusing the BJP government denying Adivasis their rights in the state.

Invoking the Mahabharata, Gandhi said the Assembly elections in Gujarat was a battle between “satya” and “asatya” (truth and falsehood). “I have the truth on my side,” the Congress vice president said. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the other hand, has the state government, central government, police, Army, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, but lies never win.”
