Ken Scott’s The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir, starring Dhanush, found takers among 11 foreign distributors in the run up to the American Film Market that began on Wednesday, Variety reported. The American Film Market is an annual event where films are sold, financed and acquired.
The first poster of the film also did the rounds of the internet on Thursday.
Adapted from Romain Puertolas’s acclaimed 2014 novel The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe, the film also features The Artist lead Berenice Bejo, Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips), Erin Moriarty and Abel Jafri. Pueretolas, whose novel has been translated into 35 languages, has written the film with Luc Bossi.
Produced by Brio Films, The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir chronicles the story of Indian con-man Ajatashatru Oghash Rathod (Dhanush), who tricks people into believing that he posses supernatural powers and convinces them to fund a trip to Europe, where he hopes to find his estranged father. The film is currently in post-production.
Before the American Film Market opened on Wednesday, European media group TF1 International had sold the film to distributors in Italy, Spain, Australia, Japan, Poland, Greece, Israel, Turkey, Portugal, Czech Republic and Slovakia. In July, Sony Pictures had reportedly acquired the film for France and the United Kingdom.
