After Rambo and The Notebook, Mike Newell’s Four Weddings and a Funeral is the latest feature film to be adapted into a television series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 1994 film followed the story of Charles (Hugh Grant) and his group of friends through the prism of the five titular social events. The television series, written by Mindy Kaling and Matt Warburton, will reportedly follow the same plotline, with each season focusing on a single story arc.
Kaling’s The Mindy Project will air its series finale on November 14.
Four Weddings and a Funeral was the highest grossing British films when it released in 1994, earning more than $245.7 million worldwide. Grant had won the Golden Globe and BAFTA awards for his performance, while Scott Thomas won the BAFTA for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. The film also won the BAFTA awards for Best Film and Best Direction.
