A woman and her two accomplices were arrested from Lashariwala area of Pakistan’s Muzaffargarh city on Monday for allegedly killing 13 of her relatives by spiking their drink with rat poison, Dawn reported. Dera Ghazi Khan Regional Police Officer Sohail Tajak said the woman, Asia Bibi, was unhappy with her marriage to her cousin Amjad.
Bibi, her friend Shahid and relative Zareena had hatched a plot to kill Bibi’s husband with rat poison, the police said. On October 26, she added poison to a pot of curd, which was later used to make the lassi that was served to the family. After drinking the lassi, 19 people fell unconscious, of whom 13, including Amjad, died in hospital. The others are still undergoing treatment.
District Police Officer Awais Ahmad told Dawn that a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act had been registered against Asia and her accomplices. The three suspects were presented before the Anti-Terrorism Court in Dera Ghazi Khan city late on Tuesday and sent to 14-day police custody, Geo News reported on Wednesday.
Bibi has denied all allegations against her.
