The Manipur vs Nagaland match in the ongoing BCCI women’s Under-19 ODI league may seem unremarkable on first glance. Nagaland were dismissed for 215 in 38 overs, but managed to bowl out the opposition for far lesser and notch a 117-run win.
But here’s the catch: Manipur scored more than hundred runs for their opposition. In a match where only two Nagaland batters crossed into double figures, the extra contributed a whopping 112.
Yes, you read that right. Nagaland batters scored only 103 runs, but got a bonus of 112 in extras. Of these, 94 were wides, conceded by almost every bowler.
Nagaland ended up winning by a margin just a bit more than the extras conceded, as Manipur crumbled to 98 all out. Mushkan was the only half-centurion as the Nagaland player top-scored with 54. Pori claimed figures of 5-16 to completely stifle Manipur after their profligacy with the ball.
This will be a performance that will haunt the bowlers given that the margin of defeat was practically as big as the runs they gave away for free.
