It was a one-two finish for India in the women’s 10m air rifle event at the Commonwealth Shooting Championship in Brisbane on Wednesday. Pooja Ghatkar won the gold while Anjum Moudgil won the silver in the event dominated by Indians.
Ghatkar shot 249.8 in the final to clinch the top spot while Moudgil was a whisker behind at the 248.7. The silver-medallist was leading for most part of the final but a misstep in the eight series proved costly. She shot a lowly 20.3 and slipped a spot down while Ghatkar took advantage and climbed to the top spot.
Another Indian, Meghana Sajjanar finished fifth with a 183.8 points.
Earlier in the qualification, Sajjanar had reached the final in third spot with a total of 416.6 points followed by Ghatkar on 415.3. Moudgil finished with 414.1 points to finish sixth in the qualification round which saw Singapore shooters Ser Xiang Wei Jasmine (419.8) and Martina Lindsay Veloso (417.5) finish one and two.
But the two Indians put their best foot forward in the final and clinched the top two places on the podium.
In the event before this, Indians had swept the podium in the men’s 10m air pistol. On Tuesday, Heena Sidhu had bagged India’s first gold.
