At least six people have died in rain-related incidents in Tamil Nadu after heavy showers lashed across the state for one more day. The downpour has also affected the districts of Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur and parts of Tamil Nadu, the Hindustan Times reported.
The meteorological department has forecast more rain for the city. The city received 13.5 cm of rainfall between Monday morning and Tuesday morning, increasing the water levels in four reservoirs by 3%.
Schools in Chennai, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur districts were shut on Wednesday for the second day. The showers have caused water-logging and traffic jams. Water had entered people’s houses in Krishna Nagar and Lakshmipuram at Mudichur.
On Wednesday, two girls, aged 8 and 9 years, were electrocuted after stepping on a wire that had snapped and fallen into stagnant water in Chennai’s Kodungaiyur, ANI reported. Three electricity board officials were suspended after the death of the two children, according to News18.
On Tuesday, a 60-year-old woman was found dead after she fell into waist-deep water off Konnur High Road. Thirty-six year-old Latha died after the wall of her house collapsed in Pillalithotti village. Rajeshwari, 35, died after she accidentally came in contact with a live wire. In Kolathankurichi, 45-year-old Ramasamy died after falling from a transformer, The News Minute reported.
