India started the Commonwealth Shooting Championships in Brisbane, Australia on a positive note with two medals on Tuesday.

Heena Sidhu, who had won a gold in the ISSF World Cup Final last week, opened the tally with a gold in the 10m air pistol event. She shot 240.8 in the final to add to her 386 in qualifying, where she had finished on top. The Australian duo of Elena Galiabovitch and Kristy Gillman completed the podium.

This is second successive gold for Sidhu in two weeks. Last Tuesday she had won the first-ever mixed team gold at the International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup Finals with Jitu Rai in the 10m air pistol.

Deepak Kumar claimed a bronze medal in the 10m air rifle event, which had two other Indians participating. Deepak scored 224.2 points in the final to finish third, ahead of Australians Alex Hoberg and Jack Rossiter

London Olympic bronze-medallist Gagan Narang had a shot a Commonwealth record 626.2 in the qualification but failed to get on the podium, finishing fourth while Ravi Kumar came fifth.
