The Chennai Police on Monday arrested a trainee Indian Police Service officer after he was caught cheating in the Union Public Service Commission (Main) Examination, the Hindustan Times reported.
Safeer Karim, an assistant superintendent of police on probation in Tirunelveli’s Nanguneri subdivision, was found using a Bluetooth device to speak to his wife during the test. The 2015 batch officer appeared for the exam at Chennai’s Presidency Girls Higher Secondary School. His wife, who was arrested by the Hyderabad Police, had allegedly dictated the answers to him over the phone.
He was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act, 2003. Karim now faces dismissal from the police force as he was under probation, according to the Hindustan Times.
“Karim admitted during interrogation that he took photographs of the question paper and sent them to his wife, who relayed the answers to him,” an unidentified Intelligence Bureau officer told The Times of India.
Karim, from Kerala’s Aluva district, had ranked 112 in the UPSC exams in 2015. He had also started a coaching centre to train candidates for civil services exams, The Indian Express reported. The centre has branches in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Calicut, Hyderabad and Bhopal.
